5 Day Kakadu Top End Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Darwin to Kakadu

Get an early start from Darwin at 6:30 am. Our first stop is a cruise on Corroboree Billabong, where you can spot crocodiles and tropical birds. After lunch, we’ll cross the East Alligator River by 4WD to enter Arnhem Land.

A local Bininj guide will take you to exclusive areas, sharing the history and culture of their people. You’ll learn about this sacred land before we head back to Kakadu for the evening.

Day 2 – Jim Jim Falls & Burrungkuy Rock Art

After breakfast, travel along the rugged 4WD track to Jim Jim Falls. Make your way across the boulders beneath the towering cliffs to reach the deep plunge pool at the base of the falls. If Jim Jim Falls is inaccessible, an alternative Kakadu attraction will be visited. Southern Kakadu’s Yurmikmik region, including Motor Car Falls, offers walking trails leading to waterfalls, swimming holes and scenic viewpoints.

In the afternoon, visit Burrungkuy (Anbangbang) Rock Art site and discover the cultural significance of this important area. Continue to Gunwhardewharde Lookout for expansive views across Kakadu’s escarpment and floodplains.

There may also be the opportunity to take an optional 30-minute scenic flight or visit the Bowali Information Centre.

Return to camp for another night in the bush.

Day 3 – Gunlom Falls or Maguk (Barramundi Gorge)

Today we make our way to either Gunlom Falls or Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) to enjoy a swim in another crystal clear waterhole.  Maguk and Gunlom are both gems of Kakadu and neither of them will disappoint.  After a relaxing morning it is time to move onto the Gold Mining town of Pine Creek.  Here we stop for lunch before continuing onto Katherine “Nitmiluk National Park”.

Here we will enjoy a dinner with the group before settling in for the night.

Day 4 – Exploring Nitmiluk National Park

Spend the day exploring Nitmiluk Gorge and the National Park, a wonderland of colours, wildlife and rock art.  Join a 2 hour Cruise and sit back and take in the beauty of the Gorge.  Note the optional cruise is seasonal and at your own expense.  We depart Nitmiluk for Edith Falls a hidden oasis of clear, cool waters surrounded by bronze boulders.  After a quick swim we continue to our camp on the edge of Litchfield National Park.

Optional Activities Katherine Gorge Cruise – bookable and payable on board

Day 5 – Litchfield’s Waterfalls and Rainforests

After breakfast we head to Litchfield National Park to enjoy it’s gorgeous waterfalls, tropical rainforest and crystal clear waterholes.  Visit Wangi, Florence Falls or Buley Rock Hole, then after  a lovely picnic lunch enjoy a stroll through the steamy rainforests and a refreshing dip before making our way back up the Stuart Highway towards Darwin arriving approximately 6pm.
