Today begins with pick up at your Darwin accommodation at 8.00 am and from there it is straight down ‘The Track’ to historic Adelaide River where we take a moment to enjoy morning tea. Reflect also on the sombre history of the War Cemetery found there before destiny takes us to Nitmiluk Gorge near Katherine. Savour lunch at the on-grounds restaurant and settle into your accommodation* before embarking for the afternoons highlights.
First we join Tom Curtain for ‘Katherine Outback Show’. Cowboy entertainment with a musical twist! Casual comfortable clothing for this event with closed shoes. Following on from our cowboy adventures we will be catching up with Marksie for dinner. He has recreated the vibe of a 1920’s stockmann’s camp from which he serves up the best stew you are ever likely to taste accompanied by natural spiced damper, refreshments and ‘old school’ yarns.
Meals included: Morning Tea | Afternoon Tea | Dinner
Up early we are off to one of the local feature cafes of Katherine for breakfast before continuing south to Cutta Cutta Caves. These enigmatic marvels of limestone tell a curios story of prehistoric life in Top End. Home to many bats and elusive creatures of the dark this is a great way to start the day. After the caves we are off to soak our bones in the natural thermal springs of Mataranka and Bitter Springs. What better way to spend the afternoon than doing absolutely nothing except soak ! Sadly though at some point we will need to leave as we have a date with the SUNSET DINNER cruise on Nitmiluk Gorge.
Get your taste buds ready as you are wined and dined down one of natures ancient artifacts of evolution. Having gorged both physically and emotionally all day it is time then to retire to our accommodation
Meals included: Lunch |Afternoon Tea | Dinner
Today we join Top Didj for an insightful and personal cultural journey. Led by a local indigenous man, Manual. Manual will tell stories of his life and times as well as lead you through painting and perhaps even the skills of fire lighting. This is an interactive fun morning. There is also a comprehensive art and artifact gallery on-site from which you will be able to peruse and perhaps purchase authentic pieces for your collection.
Following Top Didj we seek out a nice local cafe for lunch on the banks of the mighty Katherine River. A chance here also to drop on down to Katherine Hot Springs for one last thermal soak before making our way towards Pine Creek. Pine Creek is landmark town on the edge of the outback and the site of the original NT GOLD RUSH that inspired early development of the Top End. Home also to the train that featured in the movie ‘We of the Never Never’ . A quaint and interesting place to spend some time. We will be enjoying afternoon tea here and visiting the local sights before moving on to Darwin.
The 3 Day Katherine & Mataranka tour concludes in Darwin around 6 pm.
Meals included: Morning Tea |Afternoon Tea
