Departing from Darwin we begin our 3 Day Arnhem Land Dreaming Tour with a short journey to Litchfield National Park to explore the spring-fed streams, water falls and rugged sandstone escarpments. Discover the intriguing cathedral and magnetic termite mounds and enjoy a refreshing swim at Florence Falls and Wangi Falls followed by a picnic lunch. After lunch we depart Litchfield and travel along the Marrakai Road before joining the Old Jim Jim Road taking us deep into Kakadu National Park. We travel past billabongs and traversing water crossings giving you ample opportunity for wildlife spotting. We arrive at our private campsite at Cooinda Lodge (or to your room if you have chosen the accommodated option) where we spend the night enjoying some stargazing and dinner.
After breakfast this morning we continue our 3 Day Arnhem Land Dreaming Tour with a Yellow Water Cruise. This is a must do activity in Kakadu National Park, the award winning Yellow Water Cruise is Aboriginal owned and centres around a spectacular billabong system that is home to some remarkable and diverse wildlife. Spotting crocodiles and teaming with bird life this cruise is one of the highlights in Kakadu. You may even see some wild brumbies in the background or a buffalo.
After our cruise we head up the Kakadu Highway to Nourlangie Rock Art Site and Lookout. Here you can see how local Aboriginal people lived in this area though chnaging times. Environmental and social changes are reflected in the rock art and in ground, where archaeologists have uncovered over 20,000 years of Aboriginal occupation.
After lunch we head further up the Kakadu Highway and stop in for a visit at the Bowali Infomation Centre, this is Kakadu National Park Headquarters. Here you will enjoy audio-visual presentations and have the opportunity to visit the Marrawuddi Gallery showcasing Aboriginal art by artist from within Kakadu and the wider region.
Later in the afternoon we arrive at the culturally significant Ubirr Rock Art Site and Lookout which is located in the East Alligator Region of Kakadu National Park. The East Alligator separates Kakadu from Arnhem Land. Here you will view a wide range of ancient
Today on our 3 Day Arnhem Land Dreaming Tour we make our way across Cahill’s Crossing that Separates Kakadu from Arnhem Land. Once in Arnhem Land you will visit sacred rock art sites and visit the Injalak Art Centre where you can browse through the beautiful art work on offer and often experience first hand artists at work. We then travel back into Kakadu and make our way back to Darwin where our 3 Day Arnhem Land Dreaming Tour will return you to your hotel.
Note: Injalak Arts & Crafts Centre is regularly not available on Sundays and public holidays and may be closed for cultural reasons on other occasions. When this occurs alternative touring will occur.
