Your tour begins when you leave Darwin and travel along the Arnhem Highway. You will cross the Adelaide River and the Marrakai Plains before entering Kakadu National Park. The park is 20,000 square kilometers, with landscapes that range from rocky cliffs to floodplains full of wildlife. You will stop at Nourlangie, where your guide will show you ancient Aboriginal rock art. After lunch, you will join a local guide for a cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Here you can look for saltwater crocodiles and see paper bark swamps, water lilies, and many different birds. You will also visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre to learn about the traditions of the Aboriginal people of Kakadu. You will spend the night at the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel.
This morning, you will travel by 4WD vehicle into Arnhem Land and the Mikinj Valley. The scenery is amazing and includes sandstone cliffs, forests, floodplains, and billabongs. You will visit places that most people can’t get to, including ancient rock art sites. You will learn about how the land is traditionally owned, as well as bush skills, hunting, and how to find and prepare bush tucker. If conditions allow, you will meet Aboriginal artists at the Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre in Oenpelli. The tour will return to Darwin this evening.
